What the hell?

I've had Tom Jones' "What's New Pussy Cat" stuck in my head for over half an hour. How the hell did that get there and why wont it go away?

LOL!
Miranda, I've got the soundtrack from What's New, Pussycat? (Clive Donner, 1965) on disk; and I'm sure you'll want to audition it right away -- or not.

I like the film because it has so many audio and visual cues from that era's popular culture, along with a witty U.K.-oriented sense of humor which I still love. Not long after What's New, Pussycat? made its cinematic rounds, I began work for Uncle Sam; so in that regard the film represents the end of an era to which I'd quite gotten used.

Well, as it happens, the main-title theme to that film is the only instance of Tom Jones singing. So it's not like you're having to hear him throughout the film; and he doesn't appear in the film, either.

U.K. cinema was absolutely huge in the States during the first half of the 1960s; and the finest example of that is (in my opinion) the film Tom Jones (Tony Richardson, 1963). No, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Welsh singer Tom Jones! It's a comedy based upon Henry Fielding's 1749 novel The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling.
