Similarly, in my case, “Mir, if the attractive boy from volunteering offers you a ride home you say YES!”

I, however, said no last night and paid for it dearly. I actually kind of like walking home from Columbia City after volunteering. It’s a good four-mile walk, though if my parents ever ask, of course I don’t walk on Rainier Ave alone at night! Anyway, last night the cute boy offered to give me a lift to The Hill  (gosh we could have even gone out for a drink). However, between wanting the exercise for the day (mixed with the borderline insane guilt of having a big cookie that afternoon) and just how generally awkward and stand-offish I can get with people I don’t really know well but think are cute, I declined.

I walked home quickly and eagerly, and in my haste toward the final stretch of my journey I wasn’t paying attention, missed a raised bit of sidewalk and tripped. I went down hard, too, on my knees, elbows and hands. It was right at the intersection where Jackson, Boren, Rainier Ave & 14th Ave all meet up so it was the most public place possible on the whole walk. So I felt most embarrassed, wondering who in their cars saw that and went “aww that sucks” and who went “BAWHAHAHAHAHA!..Sucks to be her!.”

I got up, shook if off at the light for a moment, and dreaded the fact that I had to finish the last leg up 14th limping and cursing myself for not taking that ride after all. Luckily. my jeans were all in one piece, the gloves and elbows of my jacket were torn from the pavement. My knees we killing me the whole way home and I might have ruined my jeans as my left knee was covered in blood by the time I made it home.

Needless to say, when I woke up this morning, saw all the snow, put on my treadles converse, and headed out the door I was a bit gun shy on my walk down the hill this morning. Luckily here I am, a bit broken from yesterday’s spill but all in one piece.

I love your way of writing Mir. The situation you went through would leave me bitter and upset and sore of course...but you made your sad wet tale humorous and human at the same time.
