Stuff and Things

This weekend we had our monthly Game Night, this time at Cory’s place. It was also a joint celebration of Christine’s birthday so we wore party hats and gave her presents. I also learned the valuable lesson to abstain from the red headed sluts wherever Cory offers them. I didn’t make it into the cab back to Capitol Hill but my purse did, so Sunday I was in Ballard wallet, keys and cell phone less, that’s a particularly helpless feeling. Luckily Christine helped me out and I got home just in time to collect my purse and smoke a cigarette before the rents came and picked me up for Sunday dinner w/ them.

Last night Cathy and I went to the Lily Allen show. It wasn’t like the best show I’ve ever been to, but it was fun. She’s fucking adorable (and Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head were adorable and fun as well.) I guess it would have been better for me if I had gotten around to buying the new album as I had intended to but just never got around to. She mostly played the new stuff, which was to be expected, but I’m just a lazy (and moderately broke) bastard so I was out of the loop. I liked the songs though so when I do get around to getting the album I’m pretty sure I’ll like it. We were going to go out to the Dunnes afterward but it was late, I was exhausted and it took us probably 20 minutes to get a cab after the show got out. (I thought that was frustrating, but it was nothing to the dream I had later that night where we were basically in the same situation only the other patrons of the show were zombies and we had to fight them off and try to hail a cab in Sodo. That shit was rough!)

Spring has finally sprung or at least for a little while. I don’t know how long this is supposed to last but I really enjoyed taking a walk around Seattle after work yesterday. This winter I’ve been doing more gym time than taking walks (short of walking home from volunteering) and man, taking walks on a beautiful day is so much more enjoyable than going to the gym. Seattle is so cute too, because the parks were packed with people laying about in the sun. Volunteer park was littered with gay boys and hipsters sunning themselves. I am so ready for summer to come.

There’s a bit of pressure too to make this The Best Summer Ever™ because it shall be Cathy’s last in Seattle for a few years. I’ve been sitting on this information for a little while waiting for her to announce it on-line first. She’s going to go to grad school in Boston. I’m happy for her but sad for me as The Girls™ are once again to be separated. However, the last few years with Cathy here have been amazing, wonderful times, an absolute blast, time of my life, but I know it can’t last forever. At some point we’ve all got to move on. (This reminds me of how much work I need to put into grad school before I go to London to visit the schools I’m applying for. I need to shape up and move forward too) I’m going to miss her as my neighbor. However, the internet is a powerful tool. We’re in touch via e-mail every day already. Much like when she was living in San Jose, we talked to each other on line every day. Of course I’d feel closer with her in Seattle but of all the times to be separated from one’s BFF, the early 21st century aint too bad. Even away from a computer I could text or phone her. Also, hey, hey, guess where Mir’s vacation in 2010 will be? That’s right! I’m gonna go visit Cathy in Boston and we’re gonna see a Red Sox game, and eat lobster, and hit on boys from MIT. See I’ve already got it all planned out.

In the meantime, though, we’re going to have a jolly good summer and autum. The Girls™ have the rest of ’09 together. And even though our wallets are tighter and our schedules are busier, we’re jolly well going to make the most of it, damn it!

I don't think the last Lilly Allen album (it's not really new anymore, is it?) was near as good as the first one. Maybe it still needs to grow on me, I've only listened to it 7-10 times, but it seems slower, more pop, and less inventive. Good, but not great.

It's kinda hard to judge when you just go to a show and hear the stuff for the first time (how heavily the album is produced vs. a live band is a big difference, I'm sure) There did appear to be more slower songs, as I recall. However, there were some songs that were really fun and I liked that seemed worth it. Maybe more girly although maybe that's my impression from the show as well as there was a lot of estrogen in that venue last night. :P
