Seattle's Musical Healing Process

Last night Raye, Andy & I went to the benefit show for the victims of the Cafe Racer shooting over at Conor Byrne in Ballard. We went to see Bat Country, Bill & Melissa's band, play. Apparently their last show after after loosing a bandmate and a friend in the tragedy. It was without a doubt the most moving performance I've seen at a show. I think it was truly brave and inspiring that they preformed and they brought the house down. I'm sure it wasn't easy practicing or getting on stage three weeks after the incident. I cried sad tears to see the pain they were going through up there. I also cried I happy tears to see people dancing, drinking, celebrating life and one another in response to the assault to their community. During the last song I held on to Andy and I held on to Raye and as we swayed back and forth I felt so grateful for their love and friendship in my life. It was one of those moments in time where the beautiful complexities of human experience were expressed and shared in a room full of people through art & music; the heaviness of loss mixed with lightness that music brings to remind us that we are still alive and can dance and as we reach for our dancing partner we realize that, despite the inconceivable randomness and seeming unfairness of the universe, we're all in this together.

Beautiful post, Mir. I wish I hadn't been so wiped out after getting home from Vegas last night. I felt like this after the benefit show at the Neptune. So much beauty and love to try to help us heal.

Thank you. We wondered if we'd see you and Dan but determined that if you guys made it out to a show after just getting back from a long weekend in Vegas, it would confirm that you two are non-human super party beings from planet Awesome. :P

...Not say that you aren't though. The jury is still out. :)

I almost rallied for it, but I needed down time, even on Planet Awesome.
