"A cyclist was struck here" Good!

Alright. Just a quick bitch about the pomposity of Seattle cyclists that this website and project typafies. I've got no qualms with bicycles or the individuals who ride them seperatly, however what is it about cyclists in this town who feel so much that they are owed something that constantly break the traffic laws and get in the way. You've seen them! They breaze through red lights when they're part of traffic. They decide to be a pedestrian and ride on the sidewalk when it is convienient for them. And if you're in the passengers seat as often as I am, they're always sticking thier ass in your face as they slowly huff up Pike to get to the hill. If they feel they deserve the roads as much as cars do, then they should follow the same rules that everyone else has to. Then they have the nerve, once they get thier spandex-wearin' ass stuck by a car becasue they're breaking the rules, to scream bloody murder about how the driver was in the wrong. I've seen these assholes do very dangerous and downright stpupid moves in very busy streets with complex trafic flows. My favorite was this asshole who damn near got himself squished when he went against the light on Nickerson to get to the Freemont bridge. That's just natural selection, really and not worthy of my pity!

I can respect the environmental element, of course. And I do. But it doesn't make up for the rest of the crap they pull in the streets. That's the argument they use, 'well at least I'm not using fossil fuel and putting out more carbon monoxcide into the air.' That's very true. That doesn't make you immune, however, from any bumber you hit when you cut some a car off, or decide to stroll two-abrest down Broadway (another one I've seen recently).

I've never ran into any problems with cyclists in any other town I've been in. In Colorado everything is spread out so there are a lot of bike paths and bike lanes all over the place. Paris, they were in parks mostly but obeyed the laws on the street. New York, well no one seemed to obey traffic laws in New York and everybody just seems to go, pedestrians especially, whever they damn well feel like it so they don't count.

Nothing personal if you're a good bicylist who stays to the side, obeys the lights and respects the space of the cars and pedestrians around you (instead of just your own space like the arrogant bike riders in this town). Hey, I like rideing bikes, too. I love the feeling of the wind in your hair as you ride around on designated bike paths. I'll admit I'm far too laid back to ever take my bike (before some asshole stole the wheel off of it) on to the streets of seattle. However, if I did thow my vounerable, squishy, breakable body in with the large steel framed cars going faster than me, I'd be more careful and do everything in my power to not get my ass stuck to the tire of a semi like a soft, pink, discarded peice of gum.

Word! This one time, way back when I worked at a burger place, I was leaning on the counter while I waited for a customer come in. As I gazed lazily out the window, I saw a Cadillac stop at a corner while a bicylist, ON THE SIDEWALK, plowed through the stop sign and straight into the side of the car, sending her flying over the hood. When I ran out to make sure she was okay, she was perfectly fine, but totally BITCHING the driver out about how he hit HER. So ridiculous. They do not own the fucking road.

I bet the guy in the Cadillac was pissed off too.

I'm right there with you on this, pandapropaganda. It's all about Yuppie Power. First, they spend billions of their yuppie dollars pushing the fascist anti-smoking persecution: After all, it's plain to them that smoking (not destruction of the natural environment, famine, lack of formal education, nuclear proliferation, overpopulation, poverty, religious zealotry or war) is the world's biggest problem. Then, they decide yuppie bicyclists should have right of way no matter the circumstances. On top of that, they're all dutiful Republican Party robots.

Here at Portland, the holier-than-thou yuppie bicyclists usually confine their arrogance to the over-priced neighborhoods where they dwell. In their gated yuppie ghettos, all streets have bicycle lanes; yet yuppie bicyclists sometimes insist upon venturing onto streets used by the balance of the population, which means everyone must either give them a wide berth or risk receiving a subpoena. My suggestion is that a secret flying-squad of motorists send those politically-correct assholes on bicycles to Kingdom Come at every opportunity, then upper-middle-class yuppiedom will get the message: Bicycles, especially those ridden by yuppies, belong out of everyone's way.

Re: Amen!
Don't even get me started on smoking. there's going to be a public smoking ban on the ballot in WA. Not only does it ban smoking in bars it bans smoking 25ft. from any open door or window, so it's pretty much banning smoking in any place other than your car or home. I'm pissed off about it.

Re: Amen!
Yeah, pandapropaganda, one thing about fascists is that they never tire of making life miserable for others. All of Ireland now has a ban against smoking in public! It's insanity, but considering our own recent presidential "re-election" I'm now convinced the fascists (i.e., the international power-elites) have introduced some brain-dulling microbe into the atmosphere.

Re: Amen!
The insane thing is that they don't want people to smoke but the Bush administration wants rid of all EPA regulations. So it's okay if companies poisin our air with toxins and endanger the greater population of the American people but I don't have the right to expose myself to my own carbon monoxcide in the form of a camels I pay six bucks (much of that in taxes). I should have the right to smoke that in a bar that allows smoking as decided by the business owners. These people despise individuals rights and the rights of small business owners (i.e. bar owners and such) and worship the all mighty corporate right to rape and pillage. People should me more incensed with what Bush is doing in this new energy bill than stoping smokers from lighting up at thier favorite watering hole
